Col. Joseph Barnum

Col. Barnum is the commander of the 11th Mission Support Group, 11th Wing, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington, D.C. As the 11th MSG commander, he is responsible for providing contracting, logistical, personnel, communications, infrastructure, and installation security services in support of the 11th Wing and its 74 mission partner units. The 966-acre installation is home to a range of military and civilian agency mission partners, including Marine Helicopter Squadron One, the White House Communications Agency, the Joint Air Defense Operations Center, the Defense Intelligence Agency, United States Coast Guard Station Washington, Navy and Air Force Ceremonial Guards, as well as more than 18,000 military and civilian employees and their families throughout the National Capital Region.
 
Col. Barnum graduated from Hawaii Pacific University and was commissioned into the Air Force through Officer Training School in 2004. He has served in a variety of financial management assignments at base, center, and headquarters Air Force levels.  He deployed in support of United States Forces – Iraq and has commanded the 22nd Comptroller Squadron and 39th Comptroller Squadron.  

Prior to this assignment, he was the Deputy Director, Budget Investment at Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Financial Management and Comptroller, Pentagon, Arlington, Va., where he planned, directed and supervised the budget formulation and financial execution of Air Force procurement, research, development, test and evaluation, military construction, family housing and base realignment and closure appropriations that totaled more than $140 billion annually.
