JBAB updates on inclement weather, road conditions

By 11th Wing Public Affairs

In the event of inclement weather affecting Joint Base Anacostia–Bolling (JBAB) in Washington, D.C., the installation uses multiple communication channels to announce base closures, delayed openings, or staggered releases.

Base status updates including closures, delays, or changes to operations—will typically be released early in the morning to give personnel sufficient time to plan accordingly.
Please check the following resources for real-time JBAB updates:

•             JBAB Facebook Page – Official announcements will be posted to the installation’s Facebook page.
•             AtHoc Notifications – All Department of Defense personnel should register for AtHoc alerts to receive updates directly via mobile device or email.
•             AF Connect App – Install the app and enable push notifications to get the most up-to-date information on base operations.
Due to JBAB’s proximity to other DoD agencies, the installation generally follows guidance from the Washington Office of Personnel Management (OPM). However, JBAB retains the authority to adjust its operating status independently, which may differ from other DoD facilities.
JBAB road conditions may change based on inclement weather. This same post will be updated whenever there is a road condition change.

Here's what each road condition status means for your safety:

🟢 GREEN:
Normal travel conditions.
-Follow normal installation speed limits and traffic rules.

🟠 AMBER:
Travel conditions are degraded. Exercise increased caution.
-Always maintain complete control of your vehicle.
-Keep a safe distance from snow removal equipment, as operators may have limited visibility and operate at increased speeds.

🔴 RED:
This condition describes a degraded environment when hazardous travel
conditions exist.
-Motorists should not travel due to hazardous conditions which may
make travel unsafe for motorists, passengers and pedestrians.
-Travel only if mission-essential.
-Stay far back from snow removal equipment due to operator limitations and increased speed.

⚫ BLACK:
Roads are CLOSED for all non-mission essential personnel.
Remember, safety comes first during winter weather. Follow updates on road conditions and avoid unnecessary travel during RED and BLACK conditions. Stay warm and prepared!
